What We Do

Good Food Market Hub:

The Riverdale Food Working Group works to build food access in many different ways. Currently, we are busy with our Good Food Market Hub project:

The RFWG’s Good Food Market Hub is a community, volunteer led initiative, in partnership with Foodshare, that strives to increase access to fresh, quality food at affordable prices. The RFWG is composed of community members and 4 organizations; South Riverdale Community Health centre (SRCHC), Ralph Thornton Centre, Eastview Neighborhood  Community Centre and Mustard Seed. The RFWG strives to make Riverdale a food friendly and food secure neighbourhood. There are 3 markets at 3 different locations:

  • Tuesdays from 3-7pm on the grass between SRCHC and the Queen Street East Presbyterian Church
  • Wednesdays from 2-6pm at Eastview Neighbourhood Community Centre, 86 Blake Street.
  • Thursdays from 3-7pm at Ralph Thornton Centre at the corner of Queen St. E and Saulter St.

Education Workshops:

The RFWG hosts workshops that  focus on food education through gardening, healthy eating, food  preserving and much more. Most workshops are hands-on and participatory  in nature as we strive to learn from one another. We meet as a whole  group to share ideas and create a schedule of events and individual  members are encouraged to take the lead on organizing workshops. For information about our upcoming workshops, check out the events page.

Other activities we have been involved with are:

  • Rural gleaning, fruit and vegetable picking
  • Foraging activities
  • Works to connect farmers and folks in Riverdale
  • Farm trips
  • Wild edible hunts
  • Not Far From the Tree fruit picks
  • Backyard garden share program
  • Community gardening
  • Food voucher program connected with Withrow Park Farmer’s Market
